CCSC is getting ready to hit the books this week, but met for one last time before break to talk elections and grants.
ELECTIONS: While CCSC elections don’t kick off until after break, the elections commission said that interest has been higher than last year. Debates will all take place in one three-hour block, and while there were no major changes to the online voting system, Executive Board and Class Council President and Vice President tickets will all be linked on the site this year.
CAMPUS SMOKING BAN: Members said a recent meeting with administrators was somewhat unsuccessful as few admins showed up, but that “it [the ban] will not happen anytime soon.”
INDIVIDUAL GRANTS: After sifting through 36 applications for individual grants, the council voted to approve six of them. Some projects you may be see on campus shortly:
College Walk Foosball: For this giant foosball game, players would be strapped in harnesses connected to PVC pipes and move from side to side to kick an oversized ball into the other team’s goal. Basically, exactly what it sounds like.
“Live and Let Die Another Day”: a "humorous Don Quixote story about two best friends at Columbia ... who imagine they live in the world of James Bond intrigue and suspense," according to the project proposal.
Mini International Food Festival: a day that would allow students who have studied abroad to prepare dishes for their classmates.
Our World, Our Canvas: a project that would put a giant canvas in the middle of campus for students to make their mark and explain how they plan to build a more sustainable world.
Multilingual Literary Magazine : a multilingual literary magazine for creative fiction, nonfiction, and poetry written by students in languages other than English.
Intellectual Intercourse: an online forum for all things Core—study guides, notes, lectures, critical questions.
